Why Train?

Instructors Brian Hallaq and Jay Vosburgh demonstrate some options for responding to an attack by an armed assailant.
The sad truth is that most people who own a firearm to defend their home and their family and never even take a basic firearms safety course. Unfortunately, those people have no idea of the potential consequences associated with using a firearm to protect themselves and their family. Those consequences can be legal, financial, psychological, and even moral. The responsible person who chooses to bring a firearm into their home owes a duty to the people in their lives to be fully aware of the potential consequences associated with firearms ownership. Firearms training should not be viewed as “macho” or designed imbue the student with lethal skills. At its core proper defensive training is a life saving skill, as important as basic first aid and CPR. In addition, good quality defensive training is holistic in nature and will emphasize, not only the correct use of firearms, but also verbal intervention skills, unarmed techniques, alternatives to firearms, retention techniques, etc.

Instructors Brian Hallaq and Jay Vosburgh demonstrate the dynamics of an assailant grabbing for your handgun.
Some people believe that simply owning a firearm will make you safe from an attack. This is not really a justifiable belief. After all, owning a fire extinguisher does not make your home safe from fire, but it can help. The firearm is truly a tool, no different than any other tool. If you have a nail, then you need a hammer, not a screwdriver, and you need to know how to use that hammer, or else somebody could get hurt. Learning about firearms and self-defense exactly the same concept.
Even more critical is the idea that, even if all the facts are on your side, you will still have to justify your actions to law enforcement, possibly the courts, and probably yourself and your family. Knowing when to use your firearm is as important as knowing how to use your firearm.

Our qualified instructors will teach you more than just how to shoot a gun, they’ll teach you skills that could prevent you from ever needing to shoot the firearm.
Occasionally going to a square target range and shooting at a static target under stress free conditions does not prepare oneself for the realities of using a firearm in self-defense, yet that is precisely why most people keep a firearm. Some people believe that simply having the firearm to point at a home invader will be enough. The truth is that criminals have had guns pointed at them their entire lives and they are not intimidated by someone who points a firearm at them…on the other hand they are absolutely terrified of someone who has the fortitude and determination to use that firearm if necessary. Only training can give you the skills and determination to make the right choice when it counts.
